Report by Allie Gassman, UUCC Honduras Group Leader:

The second annual Founders Day Trivia Night took place at UUCC on Jan. 24, 2015. Chris Hayday was the emcee and kept everyone interested and entertained throughout the evening. There were 100 attendees at 17 tables. The winning table won RagTag Cinema tickets graciously donated by Tracy Lane. Most of the questions were contributed by Jon Erickson, and Marianne Erickson was the scorekeeper.

In addition to a silent auction, artisanal items for sale, desserts and a bar, the event included a chili meal and contest. The chili contest was won by Joelle Quoirin, who received a Honduran apron made by the Juan Pablo Segundo Sewing Cooperative in El Pital. El Pital is the village where the UUCC Honduras group built latrines in 2009.

The final amount raised is not yet known, but it will be around $3,000. The money will go towards latrines that will be built on our next Honduras trip, scholarships so that those who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it can join the service trip, the health clinic in El Pital that is severely lacking in supplies, and the Juan Pablo Segundo Sewing Cooperative.

The group is especially excited to be starting a partnership with a microloan organization called Adelante. Adelante is based in nearby La Ceiba and is already active in the Cangrejal River Valley though not yet in the three villages the UUCC groups have worked in. Adelante is currently in conversation with members of the communities to see whether there is interest in starting microfinance groups. A portion of the trivia night's proceeds will go to Adelante in order to support them in their work in the three communities.

Finally, a portion of the proceeds will go towards the general operating fund of the church.

Many thanks to all who contributed to such a fun atmosphere as well as to a good cause!
