UUA Vice President Ashley Horan often remarks that we all take our different shifts for the revolution. She means that we each have a role to play, but that those roles can be very different from each other. As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Sunday, we celebrate the work of Dr. King and the people around him who played different roles in the Civil Rights Movement. We’ll also ponder, amid our own moment of political turmoil, what each of our own roles may be in the work for social change.

Jan. 11 sermon video
In her sermon "The Shape of Belovedness" on Jan. 11, 2026, Intern Minister Monica Clark-Robinson examined what UU values say about fat liberation. She said, "As is often the case with the intersection of prejudices, we cannot have a fat phobia without also contributing to racism, ableism, homophobia and misogyny.... Our bodies are being removed from the circle of the beloved."
