In her reflections on the meaning of Hanukah, she said, "When we stop seeing the complexity of individuals, the situations they might find themselves in, and the decisions they feel obligated to make, we lose something for ourselves....The way we sanctify our humanity is tied, I believe, to seeing the humanity in others."
