The mission of the Membership Team is to:

  • Welcome all
  • Guide those seeking membership
  • Support new members in finding connections within the life of this congregation.

Welcoming – Membership Team members, with the help of volunteers, are the friendly faces at the Visitor Table. We enjoy welcoming all, inviting visitors to sign our Visitor Connect book, and answering questions about our church’s ministries, members, and the Unitarian Universalism faith in general. We find comfort in knowing we do not have all the answers and do our best to make connections to facilitate finding answers.

Guiding People Along the Path to Membership – When visitors decide they would like to know more before becoming members of the UUCC, they are invited to attend a membership retreat. Some retreat attendees decide to become members, while others decide they need further contemplation. Those who decide to become members are welcomed into the congregation at the next Ingathering Ceremony. The Ingathering Ceremony is part of a Sunday worship service in which new members covenant with the congregation and sign the Membership Book. For more information on membership, visit the How to Join UUCC page.

Thirteen new members joined the church on Feb. 2, 2025. Front row, from left: Ben Schultz, Mairead Willis, Donna Brockmiller, and Kat Stone and Brandon Underwood with their child. Back row, from left, Shannon Hensley, Dennis Crouch, Mark Price, Natalie Hanson, Randi Foraker, Tim Farley, Catherine Cooper and Jenn Jennings.

Facilitating Integration into the Life of this Congregation – New members are invited to complete a survey of interests so that the Membership Team can connect them with the leaders of the groups/teams that match their expressed interests. Beyond that, the Membership Team tries to remain in touch with and available to new members as they find “their” groups and activities within the life of this varied and vibrant congregation.

The Membership Team meets as needed to discuss our processes, plan upcoming membership opportunities, and to touch base regarding the needs of visitors and new members. Many hands make light the work. If you would like to use your talents to make the UUCC a warm and welcoming place, please email the team.
