Facilities Team March news

Trees wanted

If you have a tree (or trees) on your property that you have been thinking about having cut down, then now is the time. The Facilities team is looking for tree trunks (minimum diameter 10”) that can be sliced into ~14-16” lengths to serve as a natural barrier/wall to surround the Tree Deck and help keep the wood chips in the fall zone. Please help us avoid using any diseased trees on this project as we do not wish to risk the health of the many trees on the UUCC property.

If possible, have the tree trunks sliced to the desirable length on your property. Many local arborists will slice up tree trunks at your request for a modest additional fee when they cut your tree down. If needed, the Facilities Team will arrange to pick up the tree trunk pieces and deliver them to the church. Your support of this project will be greatly appreciated by the congregation’s children and our team. Please contact Kevin Fritsche (573-289-4536) if you can donate a tree trunk(s) towards our playground project.

Note: We will actually be using engineered wood fiber that is specifically designed for playgrounds, not traditional wood chips.

Recent Facilities Team accomplishments

Chairs in sanctuary cleaned: This past month members of the facilities team cleaned up the food stains on the upholstery of about two dozen of the dirtiest chairs in the sanctuary. We used a scent-free cleaning solution in respect to those members who are sensitive to industrial scents.

Bathroom floor tile repairs: Recently we completed the repairs of the loose floor tiles in the upstairs bathroom with the application of grout (followed 3 days later with grout sealer) between the floor tiles that had been reattached a few weeks ago.

Old trash storage structure: The deteriorating wooden enclosure that was near the west-side of our building and previously used to hide our garbage cans has been demolished. Hopefully, later this spring members of the Grounds Team will plant something delightful in this newly opened space.

Fire-suppression blankets: Additional fire-suppression blankets have been purchased and hung near all upstairs entrances and exits (near fire alarms). A few more are being ordered so that every classroom and meeting room as well as the kitchen downstairs has a fire blanket hung just inside each room’s entrance and near the light switch.
