Ruth Milledge, 2024-25 President
This is my final newsletter column as president. I am grateful for the privilege of serving UUCC in this capacity. I have learned so much about our governance and operations. On July 1, I will pass the presidency to Kim Wade; I know she will be an extraordinarily competent president.
On May 18, fifty-six members of our congregation participated in the Annual Congregational Meeting. We passed the budget for fiscal year 2025-2026 and elected three new Trustees who will begin their terms on July 1: Jeff White, Shannon Mulvania-Beck, and Sarah Oldfather.
I want to thank my fellow Board members: Andrea Baka, Iyesatu Kamara-Bush, Ryan Carter, Luke Dailey, Taylor Gill, Roger Nettleton, Kim Wade, and Fred Young. Working with them has been a pleasure.
I am grateful for the opportunity to work with our excellent staff, Rev. Molly, April, Jamila, and Violet. The more I learn about UUCC operations, the more I admire them.
Thanks to all of you for making my time as president such a rewarding one.

Rev. Dr. Molly Housh Gordon
This month we start our annual summer lay preaching series, and this summer the message is simple: There is a sermon in YOU, and in each of us. We all have reflections deepening in our hearts, questions tickling our minds, inspiration stirring our souls, and knowing in our bodies, and these things are important to share with one another and the world.
In April, 12 UU Churchers gathered together to get inspired for preaching, and together we journaled about some of the following questions. I give them to you for your summer contemplation. And, as always, do be in touch if there is a sermon in YOU that is longing to emerge in one of our lay-led services!
- What is something you’ve changed your mind about and why?
- What do you yearn to experience?
- What is breaking your heart right now and how are you holding that?
- What is a religious word or concept that makes you uncomfortable? How are you wrestling with it? Is it worth reclaiming?
- What is a question that won’t let go of you?
- What’s the latest thing you read that caught your mind on fire?
See you in church!

Our summer children’s programming at UUCC is all about giving children an opportunity to connect with each other and with our adult R.E. volunteers in a relaxed way, giving friendships and fun a chance to flourish. This takes the form of Park R.E., where, weather allowing, we will head to Shepard Boulevard Park for some fun and games. On rainy days (or extra hot days!), we will stay inside with legos, board games and craft supplies for some indoor fun. I’m looking forward to a fun R.E. summer with our wonderful UUCC children and families!
