Social Action Team’s July report

Faith-to-Action July recipient

The Faith-to-Action recipient for July is Migrant and Immigrant Community Action (MICA). MICA is a group of remarkable immigration lawyers and other support staff who help migrants and immigrants who otherwise can’t afford the legal representation necessary by representing them pro bono or at very reduced cost. Our UUCC Guatemalan family is being represented by MICA pro bono.

You will hear more about this worthy organization during Sunday worship service collections. Please donate as you are able, either online or in the old-fashioned way… in the collection plate!

Faith-to-Action nominations are open

The Social Action Team is currently accepting applications for Faith-to-Action collections for the period September 2025 through August 2026. Deadline for “first priority” nominees is July 1. Nominations received after July 1 will be considered if we do not have 12 qualified applicants. Any member or friend of UUCC may submit a nomination. The team would like to evaluate the nominees in July and deliver the list to Rev Molly so that we are ready for the September collection.

Here are the nominated recipients as of this writing:

  • Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia
  • The Lajee Center
  • The Women’s Forum in Honduras

Honduras Team News

Please mark your calendars – the next UUCC Honduras service trip is scheduled for Spring Break 2028.

Whether you ever go on a service trip to Honduras or not, we absolutely could not do it without the incredible support and enthusiasm of the whole congregation. Thank you!

Please email Allie Gassmann if you would like to get involved!

Thanks for feeding our food barrel…

Did you know UUCC collects food for the Food Bank Market? Leave your donations in the barrel near the elevator and we will get them to the market for you!

Loaves and Fishes – June 15 meal

Gregg Suhler reports 149 plates of food served. The L&F director Ruth O’Neill said that average number served recently has been about 135. There were numerous compliments on the quality of food served and personal compliments. We were able to serve ample portions. There are more senior citizens being served than in previous years. Vic Meyers reports that he prepared and served the most pies ever.

All the volunteer slots, for food and for serving, filled up several days in advance. If you are considering volunteering, don’t delay! Positions go fast! Consider signing up for a future L&F as a service project for your Chalice Circle or other group.

Here are the people who either donated food, or their time to serve & clean up, or both:
