Social Action Team’s August report

The Faith-to-Action recipient for August is No More Deaths

No More Deaths is an advocacy group based in Tucson, AZ and a primary ministry of the Tucson UU Church, that seeks to end the series of fatalities of undocumented immigrants crossing the desert regions near the US-Mexico border. Volunteers provide food, water and medical aid to people crossing the US-Mexico border through the AZ desert and offer humanitarian aid to individuals in Mexico who have been deported from the US. You will hear more about No More Deaths on Aug. 4 and Aug. 25 during our Sunday worship services. Please donate as you are able.

2025 Honduras Service Trip News

Monthly meetings are well underway to plan the 6th UUCC Service Trip to Honduras. But it is not too late to join us! We will be traveling to Honduras during Spring Break 2025 to build latrines and do other projects which the community desires and we can offer. Scholarships are available.

Cito, our foreman on the ground in Honduras who leads our projects, is responding very well to the Hepatitis C treatment. Cito had had complications of Dengue which led to activation of his Hepatitis C. Many have donated privately towards the enormous cost of his treatment, and we are very hopeful that Cito will be well enough to continue leading our projects. We really couldn’t do them without him!

Be watching out for fundraisers coming up starting in September. We need to raise funds for materials to build latrines, to support the health clinic in El Pital and for other projects the community needs.

Please email Allie Gassmann if you would like to get involved, join us on the trip and/or have questions and ideas.
